Weekend weather, thunderstorms and hail on the way: the regions affected by the severe weather. Then the African heat returns.

Over the weekend, thunderstorms, hail, and gusts of wind will hit central and northern Italy, while the south will remain hot. The respite, however, will be short-lived: the African anticyclone is poised to return as early as the end of July.

After the record heat of the last few weeks, the weather changes face again. In weekend of July 25th and 26th a disturbance will bring temporal, hail e gusts of wind especially at Center-North, while the South will still remain under the pressure of the African anticyclone with high temperatures.

It will be a transitional phase: the bad weather will temporarily interrupt the long period of intense heat, but the truce it might not last long. In fact, forecasts indicate a new increase in temperatures already from the end of July, with the return of the African heat and possible peaks close to 40 degrees at the beginning of August.

The worsening will begin to be felt between Saturday evening and Sunday, when a new disturbance will reach Italy. The first phase will mainly affect the North: between Piedmont, Lombardia e Liguria The first thunderstorms are expected, with possible hail and strong gusts of wind. Subsequently, the unstable front will also extend to the North-East and to the central regions.

Sunday July 26th It will be the busiest day, with showers and thunderstorms expected on Lombardia, Triveneto, Emilia Romagna and Lombardy, Toscana, Umbria, Brands, Lazio e AbruzzoIn some areas, the weather could be intense, with rainfall concentrated in a short period of time and possible local disruption. The severe weather could also affect parts of the Adriatic coast, with more isolated episodes in Puglia and other southern regions.

The weekend will once again show a divided Italy. While the Center-North will see a drop in temperatures and a more unstable phase, the South and the Islands will continue to deal with the heat. Sardinia will be among the hottest areas, with temperatures that could return close to 40 degrees, while also Sicilia and other areas of southern Italy will maintain high temperatures. This is the opposite of the situation in the northern regions, where the passing low pressure system will bring temporary relief after weeks of intense heat.

The respite from the heat could be short-lived, however. Weather trends indicate a new strengthening of the African anticyclone starting from July 29In the first phase temperatures could rise towards values between 32 and 35 degrees, to then further increase in first days of AugustIn some areas of Italy, new peaks near 40 degrees are not ruled out.

After thunderstorms and hail, extreme heat could return: summer 2026 still seems far from offering a real break.
