Pd, Letta closes the doors to Moratti in Lombardy but fails to convince Pisapia to run

Letta strictly rules out an agreement with the Third Pole on Moratti's candidacy in the next regional elections in Lombardy but for now hasn't found a convincing alternative

Pd, Letta closes the doors to Moratti in Lombardy but fails to convince Pisapia to run

La Moratti No. Enrico Letta, yesterday opening the work of the Secretariat of the Pd, was adamant in ruling out the possibility of a deal with the Third Pole on the candidacy of Letizia Moratti for the next regional elections in Lombardy. "There is not a single reason in the world why the Democratic Party should nominate Letizia Moratti, Berlusconi's former minister and former councilor of the Northern League Fontana," Letta said bluntly. So closed doors to Moratti but also and above all to calenda e Renzi of the Third Pole who launched the Moratti candidacy.

PD IN LOMBARDY: THE SEARCH FOR AN ALTERNATIVE TO MORATTI CONTINUES

Between possible electoral success in Lombardy with Moratti and affirmation of its identity, the Democratic Party therefore chooses the second option. Difficult choice that risks having repercussions also in Lazio (where a part of the Democratic Party opposes the candidacy of the councilor for health Alessio D'Amato, supported instead by Calenda) but also on a general level where the margins of understanding between the reformist forces of the opposition to the Meloni government move away. Of course, Moratti's candidacy is divisive in Milan and the initial investiture of Calenda and Renzi on the former mayor complicates the choices in the Pd house, where however there are voices that push us to better evaluate the choices so as not to then have to accept yet another defeat in a key region such as Lombardy. But to oppose the candidacies of the outgoing Governor Fontana for the centre-right and of Moratti for the Third Pole, the Democratic Party should be able to find a strong personality for the Regions, something that is currently not in sight. The mayor of Milan beppe room the former mayor Giuliano has already marched off Pisapia niche and the hypothesis of the coalition primaries cools other possible candidates. Carlo Cottarelli remains in the field who would be ready to run for the Lombardy Region on condition, however, that he has the support of Azione di Calenda, which the Pd seems to exclude.

PD CONGRESS: BONACCINI HURTS TO SHORTEN TIMES

On the national level however, the reformist wing and the candidate in pectore for the secretariat, Stefano Bonaccini, are pressing to shorten the time of the Congress, which Letta does not seem to exclude. "It seems to me we are realizing - said Bonaccini - that the times had to be more in tune with what our members and voters expect", But the battle remains open and, where the clash on the calendar, it is desirable that the Pd decide to talk about contents and strategies and not to reduce one's Congress to a referendum between alliance with the Five Stars or not.
