Federacciai move from hypotheses to facts aboutformer Ilva. The association's Board of Directors has officially given the president the mandate Antonio Gozzi to transmit to the competent bodies a expression of interest for Steelworks of Italy, the group that manages the former Ilva plants.
The decision comes after the last few hours of discussions on the possibility of building a Italian consortium for the revitalization of the Taranto steel hub. But there's an important clarification: this is not yet a takeover offer. The expression of interest is in fact subject to verification of a set of conditions considered essential to make an industrial relaunch intervention sustainable.
The next step in the process will hinge on these so-called "enabling conditions." Federacciai intends to review them with the government before transforming the interest of Italian steel companies into a full-fledged industrial project.
The expression of interest will also have a precise perimeter: it will concern the recovery and relaunch of the plants not affected by the block of the hot area, ordered by the ordinance of the Court of Appeal of MilanThis narrows the scope of the initiative and places the focus on hot production and the solutions needed to ensure the industrial future of the Taranto site.
Gozzi will act on behalf of a group of companies already prepared to participate in the initiative. The door, however, remains open: other companies could join in the coming days, expanding the Italian pool interested in participating in the former Ilva deal.
