Corruption: 4 arrests in Rome, including Gabriele Visco, son of the former Finance Minister

Gabriele Visco, the son of the former finance minister Vincenzo Visco, was arrested and placed under house arrest together with a lawyer and two Roman entrepreneurs. The precautionary measures were carried out by the financiers of the special currency police unit at the request of the Rome prosecutor's office. The charges are corruption and illicit influence trafficking.

Gabriele Visco, 51 years old, had been working in 2007 Invitalia antenna, the company controlled by the Mef which deals with investments and business. Until a few months ago, he held the role of head of foreign investments and planning for the control of innovation and competitiveness.

The investigation and accusations

“The investigation allowed us to hypothesize a system of illicit relationships widespread and consolidated in which a former public manager (Visco, ed.), with the mediation of a Roman entrepreneur, would have favored, in exchange for money and other benefits, the awarding of a tender of over 4 million of euros to a company attributable to a manufacturer and attempted to facilitate the hiring of a person close to the latter at a public subsidiary", reads a note from the Rome Prosecutor's Office.

In this context, "a corruption story would also have emerged in which the former manager would have entrusted a consultancy assignment (for an amount of 230 thousand euros) at the institution where he was employed to a lawyer he knew, obtaining the reimbursement of part of the fees invoiced by the lawyer for services that were never actually carried out".

Also for this reason the financiers of the Special Currency Police Unit have started a preventive seizure.
