Roche has bought the American company InterMune, specialist in the field of pulmonology, for 8,3 billion dollars. The Basel pharmaceutical group gives the news in a note. The deal was approved by their respective boards of directors. The offer represents a premium of 38% over InterMune's closing price on Friday and 63% over its August 12 price.
In recent days, stock exchange rumors had taken for granted an interest by the European giant in the Japanese Chugai, which surged by up to 20% on the Tokyo Stock Exchange last week. But Roche then preferred to look to the other side of the Pacific, conquering the Californian company, based in San Francisco, producer of pirfenidone, a drug developed for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
