Pfizer will not make a new offer for Astrazeneca. Pfizer communicates this in a note, explaining that on May 18 a final offer was made for the merger of the two companies and faced with the rejection of the proposal by the Astrazeneca board of directors, Pfizer "announces that it does not intend to make an offer for Astrazeneca" .
“We continue to believe that our final proposal was binding and represented the real value of Astrazeneca in light of the information available. As we have indicated from the outset, the pursuit of this transaction was a potential reinforcement of our existing strategy. We will continue to focus on executing our plan, advancing new treatments to meet patient needs and remaining responsible stewards of our shareholder capital,” said Ian Read, Pfizer president and chief executive officer.
