INPS in the storm: the Facebook page becomes a national case

The questions and answers on basic income that can be read on the INPS per la Famiglia page have aroused much controversy between those who laugh heartily and those who speak of bullying.

INPS in the storm: the Facebook page becomes a national case

Becomes a national case what is happening on the Facebook page "INPS for the family".

Since yesterday, April 17, one of the official pages of the National Social Security Institute has ended up in the eye of the storm due to some answers given to those who asked clarifications – even rather absurd in some cases to be honest – on the citizen's income.

The INPS has in fact begun to send text messages and email responses to those requesting the subsidy in the month of March and, for some, the acceptance of the request has also brought with it a big disappointment. The amount is in many cases much lower compared to the expectations of the applicants. Only 40, 100, 180 euros per month for those who expected a regular income of 780 euros. It's not the fault of the INPS, which as the social media manager of the "INPS per la Famiglia" page underlined hundreds of times only deals with "applying the rules approved in Parliament", but of an exaggerated political communication that has often preferred to punctual explanations unrealizable claims and promises.

That's it thousands of people flocked to the page in question, asking for information and expressing complaints. In some cases, it has even reached the limits of "self-reporting": "My child has never worked (legally), where can he go to request more clarifications on the citizen's income?"

The “INPS per la Famiglia” Facebook page responded to many users, often using calm and professional tones, in some cases using words perhaps a little too exasperated and impatient.

Above all, to cause a stir replies provided to a user calling himself “Candy Candy, Forza Napoli”. After a borderline surreal exchange on the INPS PIN, the social media manager replies as follows: “Just request it from Poste or INPS. Or is she too busy taking bunny ear selfies?” The reference is to the girl's profile picture. The administrators also increase the dose: "We repeat: if you use Facebook and take selfies with bunny ears, you also know how to request a pin".

The question and answer aroused two different reactions: on the one hand "the big laughs" of those who had already foreseen the disappointment of the beneficiaries of the basic income, on the one hand the indignation of those who consider certain types of answers unacceptable from an institutional page.

In order to put an end to the controversy, an official apology arrived in the morning: "In line with the provisions of the netiquette and the social media policy of the page and in consideration of the great interest and impact of #citizenship income and other measures in favor of the family , we will only respond to comments relating to the technical aspects of the services provided by Inps. We take this opportunity to apologize to those who may have felt touched or offended by some of our responses“.
