Fincantieri Marinette Marine has been commissioned by the US Navy to build 4 landing ships

Fincantieri Marinette Marine has been selected to build in Wisconsin four medium-sized landing ships (Lsm, acronym for Medium landing ship) for the U.S. NavyA step that precedes the signing of a formal contract and which, according to what we understand, would have a value of approximately 800 million dollars.

This is the figure – 800 million, to be precise – that the US Congress has added to the LSM program of the US Navy in the context of the budget for defenseThe Medium Landing Ships are intended to bridge the gap between small landing craft and large multi-mission amphibious units, ensuring coastal mobility and logistical capacity to the forces of the Marine Corps in contested environments, particularly in theIndo-PacificThe program includes the creation of a fleet of 35 units, considered central to the operational concept of maneuver and distributed logistics of U.S. amphibious forces.

Of the first five units, FMM will build four, while Bollinger Shipyard will build one. To expedite the procedures, a new shipyard will be appointed. responsible for the construction of ships (Vcm, Vessel contract manager) who will be responsible for managing the order and entrusting the construction of a second block of five additional units. Finally, the last large block of 25 units will be financed in June. Fmm is, of course, in the running for all the assignments.

The order for the US Navy is one of those expected by Fincantieri which, on the occasion of the presentation of the plan to 2030, has provided orders for naval defense for 5 billion euros within six months.

For the Italian group, led by Pier Roberto Folgiero and fresh from an accelerated capital increase, this is excellent news and a confirmation of its industrial success. We will see today what effect the new assignment will have on Bag on Fincantieri shares, which opened up more than 3 percent.
