Türkiye, clashes continue: the victims rise to three

Clashes continue in Türkiye. Even today thousands of people they met in Taksim Square, in the heart of Istanbul, clamoring for the resignation of Prime Minister Recep Erdogan, receiving new charges with tear gas from the police.

Started five days ago in Istanbul to defend Gezi Park (a small historic park in the city center) from destruction in favor of a shopping mall, the street protests have spread like wildfire across the country following the violent repression by the policeand they show no signs of stopping. Meanwhile, the number of victims has risen to three: the last one, Abdullah Comert, shot by a gun during clashes in the south of the country, was only 22 years old.

From Morocco, where he went for an official visit, Erdogan declared himself optimistic only yesterday evening: "The situation in Turkey is calming down and when I return from this visit, the problems will be resolved". But in the meantime, the Confederation of Public Workers' Unions has proclaimed a two-day strike to protest against the repression of demonstrations.
