Italy all in yellow, from 1 June 3 white Regions

Italy is all yellow. For the first time, thanks to the vaccination campaign and the progressive improvement of the epidemiological situation, from Monday 24 May the whole country will be in the yellow zone, the lowest risk range.

"The global crisis is not over, we must act quickly," said Prime Minister Mario Draghi. “We” in Europe “are starting to see the end of this tragedy,” he said il Premier Draghi during the Global Health Summit of Rome, on which occasion he also spoke about the future of vaccines. “We will probably need more vaccination rounds in the future, and increasing production is essential. One proposal is to introduce a patent suspension on Covid-19 vaccines. Italy is open to this idea – Draghi explained -, in a targeted way, limited in time and which does not jeopardize the incentive for pharmaceutical companies to innovate”.

Draghi then explained that “The EU has exported around 200 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to 90 countriesabout half of its total production. All states must do the same. We must lift the general bans on exports especially to the poorest countries".

Returning to Italy, the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, who will sign the ordinance tonight, anticipated: “Today Italy will all be in the yellow area. It is the result of the measures taken so far, the correct behavior of the vast majority of people and the vaccination campaign. Let's continue on this path with confidence, prudence and gradually".

But there's more: starting from June 1, Molise, Sardinia and Friuli Venezia Giulia will even be able to pass through white area. Which will mean early goodbye to curfew and total openings. The only rules to respect: distancing and mask. If the epidemiological curve continues to fall, on June 7th too Abruzzo, Veneto and Liguria they might turn white, followed a week apart by Lombardy, Lazio and Umbria, provided that these 3 regions in the monitoring of 28 May manage to have an incidence of 50 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants (now they vary between 90 and 70 cases).

Remaining on the incidence, at the national level the value is equal to 66 cases per 100 inhabitants, down from 96 last week.

This week, no Region or Autonomous Province exceeds the critical occupancy threshold of ICU or medical area beds. The employment rate in intensive care at 19%, 11 points below the critical threshold, with a decrease in the number of hospitalized people from 2.056 (11/05/2021) to 1.689 (18/05/2021). The employment rate in medical areas nationwide drops further (19%). The number of people hospitalized in these areas increased from 14.937 (11/05/2021) to 11.539 (18/05/2021).
