Symbolic thinking and coded language are a prerogative of human beings. Through the use of mathematical symbols we can write formulas that explain very complex phenomena, just as stylized images – such as emoticons – can express well-defined meanings.
We are at episode number 48 of the column “Mental Gymnastics” for a “Winning Brain” resulting from the collaboration of FIRST online with the professor Giuseppe Alfredo Iannoccari, neuropsychologist, professor at the State University of Milan and president of Assomensana, the association for the development and enhancement of mental activities. Every Sunday a mental gymnastics exercise is proposed on FIRSTonline that stimulates different mental abilities. In the banner on the right of our home page are grouped all the exercises already published, which have stimulated a different ability of our brain each time.

Mental gymnastics exercise number 48: “Coded message”
Today's exercise uses symbols to develop the mind's ability to interpret signs and reason abstractly and enhances the following mental abilities: Language, Planning, Concentration, Reasoning.
Delivery: Replace numbers and symbols with letters that allow you to form a meaningful sentence. The same number/symbol corresponds to the same letter. The sentence is a part of an aphorism by Leonardo da Vinci. Example: M2N%2 = MIND; etc.
